History, technical incidents
- In August 2011, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) was awarded with the contract for building two new generation AIDA ships – AIDAprima and AIDAperla. The Prima ship’s construction started in June 2013. The vessel was floated out on May 4, 2015 and delivered on March 14, 2016. The Perla ship was delivered on April 27, 2017. The christening ceremony was held in Palma de Mallorca on June 30 (during the 7-day Inaugural cruise June 24 – July 1) from Barcelona.
Crew & Passenger incidents (injuries, crimes)
- June 30, 2017, a 24-year-old male passenger naked jumped from the ship. The young man appeared to be on drugs. He was traveling together with his grandmother. The incident occurred in the morning (at ~6:30 am) while the cruise ship exited Palma de Mallorca’s harbour. The man, swimming through the harbor, was saved by port guards, brought back onboard, then taken to a local hospital. The accident happened at the end of the 7-day Mediterranean cruise (inaugural itinerary June 24-July 1) from Barcelona to Palma (Majorca Island, Spain).
